Name: 7 days Mt Kilimanjaro climbing via Marangu route
Duration: 7 Days
Marangu route is the easiest and shortest route, Kilimanjaro’s summit and is known as the “coca cola” or “tourist” route. Marangu route is the only route in Kilimanjaro with the comforts of solar powered sleeping huts and comfortable beds at every camp.
The huts are communal. There are beds at both Mandara and Kibo huts and 120 beds at Horombo hut. Bathrooms and running water are available at the two lower huts.
This route is usually done in 5 days, but you can do it in 6 days for better acclimatization. You can spend your extra day resting at Horombo or climbing to a basecamp below Kibo’s sub peak Mawenzi. Jamboree Africa Tours and Safaris (JATS) offers daily packages that will take you to this the highest mountain in Africa with our qualified guides potters and cooks who are fluent in English speaking guides.
The Marangu route is also the easiest route and so no technical skill is required for the climb. During the trek you will be using the mountain huts which are situated along the route, the huts have all the basic necessities needed during the stay. Note that the extra night can be added at Horombo Hut for acclimatization if needed at extra cost.

7 DAYS MT. KILIMANJARO VIA MARANGU ROUTE
Arrival
- You’ll be collected from the airport (or hotel).
- We can arrange accommodation in Arusha or Nairobi at an extra cost.
Day 1: Nairobi – Arusha
After breakfast, we will pick you up from your Nairobi hotel and thereafter, depart for Arusha arriving in time for lunch. Spend the afternoon organising any gear you require for the trek.
Overnight at your Arusha hotel.
Day 2: Arusha – Mandara
After breakfast, drive to Moshi then on to the Marangu Park Gate, the set off point for your three hour hike to Mandara Hut in which you cover 9 km. Here, we are at 2,774m above sea level on your first overnight on Kilimanjaro.
Day 3: Mandara – Horombo
Begin your trek to Horombo hut in an average hiking time of 8 hours, lunch enroute. In clear weather Mawenzi and Kibo peaks can be seen.
Dinner and overnight at the hut, altitude 3,761m.
Day 4: Horombo – Kibo
After breakfast, hike 13 km to Kibo hut, 4,732 m above sea level in an average hiking time of 6 hours. You will now encounter spectacular mountain vegetation like lobelia, giant cactus and groundsel.
Day 5: Kibo – Horombo via Gilman’s Point and Uhuru Peak
Wake up at 02.00 a.m. for a pre-down attempt of the s
ummit. It takes 5 hours to Gilman’s Point 5,681 m above sea level. From Gilman’s it takes 1 hours to the summit Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,896 m above sea level. Descend to Horombo hut for overnight.
Day 6: Horombo – Arusha
After breakfast, descend to the Marangu Park Gate via Mandara. You will be transferred to your Arusha hotel for overnight.
Day 7: Arusha – Nairobi
After breakfast depart for Nairobi on the morning or afternoon shuttle.
